What ages can take lessons?
Kids (age six and above) as well as any adults may register for lessons. Classes will vary and be more age or level specific
What other classes and/or lessons will be offered?
In the near future we hope to provide art, photography, music production using Reason, Live and ProTools. Depending on the need, we will develop and find the best possible instructor for any need.
When are lessons and classes offered?
They will be held from 12:00 - 9:00PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays. (Saturday lessons will be evaluated in the future).
Daytime lessons are available for home school students or adults.
Where are they offered?
The third floor of the Atrium will house the lesson rooms and classrooms.
How do the lessons work?
Depending on your selection of lesson length, you will have a lesson on the same day and time each week. Students are expected to practice and study their instrument or subject and come prepared for each class or lesson. Teachers will give assignments each week as well as a mid-term and a final semester test.
Who are the teachers?
All of our teachers are Christian. Most have a minimum Bachelors Degree, or have extensive experience in education and performance. Five of our teachers have joined the teaching staff from the Lakewood Church TV Orchestra. Others have taught in the local school districts or had their own home studios.
What is the hiring process for teachers?
After completing an application, all prospective teachers are interviewed by members of the Worship Staff. An extensive background check is done to assure a safe environment for all of our students. We are looking for instructors who enjoy teaching, will be a positive Christian influence, and will inspire their students.
Are discounts for multiple students in one family?
Yes, but only on lessons. There will be a 10% discount on the second immediate family member registered and continued through all members of the household. Each family member is required to pay the $25 registration fee. Classes cannot be discounted.
What do I do with the registration form and fee?
Submit it to the host at the School of Fine Arts Kiosk during open registration, bring it to the Worship Offices on the second floor of the Atrium, or mail it to the address on the form. The $25 registration fee must accompany the registration form.
Do I have to fill out a registration for each semester?
Yes, because of class advancement and student levels, registration is required each semester. Although, the registration fee is an annual fee.
Do I have to pay the registration fee for each additional class I sign up for?
No, once you pay the registration fee, you can add as many classes you want.
How do I know what lesson length to register for?
- 30 minute lessons: small children as well as beginners on all instruments
- 45 minute lessons: older students who have had previous instruction in their area of concentration. Many students who wish to study for 45 minutes are at an intermediate level.
- 60 minute lessons: an hour lesson should be set aside for advanced students.
These are students who have been studying for years. The teacher will recommend this length of lesson as needed.
Will there be recitals or performance opportunities?
Yes, there will be a recital at the end of each semester, and depending on the student and the teacher’s evaluation, there will be many other performance opportunities.
Will there be a set curriculum?
Yes. Each course of study will have a basic outline and goal for each semester. Private lessons will vary slightly depending on the students ability.
Will there be ensembles?
There is nothing planned for the Fall semester. Although, if there is student interest, we can facilitate as needed. Future plans include vocal and instrumental ensembles.
Where do I enter the building for lessons?
The main parking lot entrance. The stairs and elevators are accessible to the third floor. All rooms will be marked with class description and teacher’s name.
Is there a waiting area for parents?
Sitting areas at each end of the third floor Atrium for waiting students and parents.
Is there a late fee?
With our payment options, a late fee would only be accessed in the case of insufficient funds from bank draft, or a declined credit card payment. A $35.00 fee would then apply for each transaction.
What is the withdrawal procedure?
We require a 30 day notice to withdraw from lessons or a class.
What is the make up lesson policy?
- Make up lessons will be given if the student has contacted the teacher or school at least 6 hours prior to scheduled lesson time.
- An excused absence is a) student illness, b) extreme emergency, c) death in the family.
- Only two make-up lessons per semester will be granted.
- No lessons will be made up if they are missed due to late payments.
- Any lesson missed or canceled by the instructor is the responsibility of the instructor to make up.
- In the case of a teacher illness, another instructor may be temporarily assigned to insure there is not an interruption in the semester.
- In the case of inclement weather, we will follow the local school districts decision on closings unless we call you otherwise. We will then implement a make-up day for those classes missed.
