Classes

Students will learn together in small groups with the class method.  This is a great method for learning the fundamentals that apply to all areas of an applied study.  Classes will allow students to learn together but still be small enough to support individual attention.

Contemporary Dance

Characterized by versatility, Contemporary Dance describes a range of techniques and styles.  It utilizes the methods  developed in Modern and Postmodern dance, but also employs ballet technique, fundamental to all types of dance.  Contemporary Dance is an umbrella under which many different techniques can blend together.

Piano

This class will meet in the electronic piano lab to review and learn more skills and techniques needed in music reading, music theory and piano performance. It is intended for students who have little or no background in piano technique. This class will include an introduction to basic playing techniques, emphasizing the awareness of musical notation, rhythm and rhythmic patterns, tonal patterns and keyboard skills.  The Piano Lab Class is one hour in length.  There are classes for children ages 5 & 6 and for students ages 7-10 who have never taken lessons, as well as a class for beginning music theory.

Ear Training Lab

This practical approach to ear training will help you build your confidence as a performer by teaching you how to notate basic rhythms and better identify the different parts of a song.

Laptop Computer Required

This course is intended to equip musicians with the knowledge and skills of computer music engraving to professionally print their own music. Course includes printing music with and without a MIDI keyboard and transcribing music from other software sequencers. Students work in a hands-on environment utilizing Finale Notation Software.  Students will receive a copy of Finale .




Music Appreciation

Do you want to understand the fundamentals of music better? This class will introduce you to the very basics of understanding music. Basic rhythm and melody will be explained through musical example and piano performance.



Rhythm Section

So you’ve had lessons on your instrument and are feeling like it’s time to stretch out and play with a group. This is the perfect class to help get you started to understanding your role in an ensemble and put what you know to the test.

You will be coached alternately by four of the premier rhythm section musicians in the Houston area. There will be many performance opportunities available to the members of this class.
